Peg Board Jewelry Organizer

We moved in two years ago and since then all of my jewelry has been sitting in a purse in the bottom of my closet which, as you can imagine, is not very useful. Digging for what I want and trying to untangle it from the mess drives me nuts. I've been meaning to create a jewelry organizer to hang behind the bedroom door and today I found some time in my schedule! It's just the perfect size to organize all of it and I can finally see at a glance what my options are!

Bonus: It hides behind the door when it's open but it also looks cute as a part of the decor as well.

Pac Man Wall Art

Now that we have so many teenagers (5!) we turned one of the rooms in our house into a game room. And of course a game room needs some game themed art! Initially I accidentally painted Blinky more purple-ish but my little sister set me straight as "He's the main ghost!". She had a point so I did a little color correction to set him straight, haha.

It turned out to be the perfect fit but now I'm thinking I also need to fit Mario in here somewhere...

Hot Tub Removal

On the plus side, when we bought this house it came with a pool. BUT it also came with a nasty broken hot tub that I was pretty sure one of my kids would eventually fall into.

The old owner had already drilled holes in the bottom for drainage so there was no saving this thing. I called around and I was told it was going to cost $400 to have a company come out and remove it but then I realized, hey, I have a respirator and a sawzall. I can do this myself for the cost of a single dump fee!

***If you are going to do this, make sure that any power and/or water lines are disconnected. You don't want any nasty surprises (especially if you're standing in wet mushy mess that wouldn't mix well with electrical)***

Seriously, wear the respirator. Fiberglass is not something you want to be breathing.

Once I had the main cuts done I did have to bring in a sledgehammer and crowbar to help me break up the pieces along with my sawzall.

With all of the junk out of the way I was ready to start framing in the replacement floor. First I checked on what supports I already had in there but it turned out that I was close enough to just tie in to the existing structure (but I still added another anyway because I like to over engineer).

And voila, we have a flat deck! I still need to sand down the existing deck and stain the whole thing but it is now kid safe!

20 Desks

When you need to build 20 desks at once, what does that look like? It looks like a *very* crowded garage.

But with a little bit of an assembly line even a small space can handle this.

Until it's time to stain, that is. Suddenly, wide open space is preferable. Luckily, the business had a large room they weren't using yet which was a great place to set all of the desktops up for staining.

This desktop is my favorite. The knot looks just like a unicorn!

These desks are very sturdy and very affordable.

For a very industrial office these worked out perfectly. So beautiful!

Unique Barn Wood Art

I'm finishing up a custom reception desk that is made with 100 year old barn wood and there were small pieces of wood that were cutoffs or were partially damaged that couldn't be used for the main desk. When you have old and beautiful wood I feel that it's a huge shame to toss any of it so all of the scraps were ripped down to a consistent width to create this beautiful wall art.

Every piece was glued and nailed to be sure that they would never budge. To make sure that everything stays put while it dries I used a very "fancy" technique to keep everything flat.

And now, what some people might have considered waste is a pretty and unique piece of rustic art.

King Size Headboard

We needed a new headboard after the remodel of the master bedroom. This is built from Ana White plans (found here)

After finishing the build the headboard was primed and painted.

The final color is an off white that matches our trim-work. The bedroom was still in disarray as we finished the drywall on the remodel but the headboard is all set and sure looks pretty!

The completed headboard is so pretty and I just love it!

Custom Bar

One of my favorite pieces this year, this custom bar was created by refurbishing the base from a china hutch and then creating a custom wooden top. Shelves were repurposed into wine and cocktail glass hangers.

Feathers were the inspiration for bar top's pattern, a mixture of stained and painted wood.
